Cuneiform in Canaan
Cuneiform in Canaan: The Next Generation Second Edition by Wayne Horowitz, Takayoshi Oshima, and Seth Sanders.
This book examines cuneiform inscriptions discovered in the region historically known as Canaan, which includes the land of Israel. It is jointly issued by the Israel Exploration Society and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and compiles 97 cuneiform texts; primarily clay tablets, fragments, and inscribed objects that span the Middle Bronze Age through the Iron Age.
These artifacts were unearthed from sites such as Hazor, Megiddo, Taanach, and Jerusalem. They include administrative documents, letters, legal texts (e.g., a Hazor fragment paralleling the Code of Hammurabi), literary excerpts (e.g., from the Gilgamesh Epic), and alphabetic cuneiform inscriptions.
Wayne Horowitz is Professor of Assyriology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is an authority on cuneiform texts in Sumerian and Akkadian that deal, directly or indirectly, with the structure of the cosmos.
Takayoshi Oshima is currently a Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft researcher at the Institute for Old Testament Studies, University of Leipzig.
Seth L. Sanders is Professor of Religious Studies at the University of California, Davis.
