The Decline of the West
The decline of the West (Vols. 1 and 2) by Oswald Spengler (1918, 1922).
An interesting book in two volumes written before the first World War, by a German philosopher and historian who believed that Western Civilization was headed for a “culture war” which would usher in a state of decay and ultimately lead to the civilization crumbling.
Spengler felt that the West had already entered a protodecadent phase which was being celebrated by as “enlightened” that signaled the beginning of the end for the civilization.
Certainly Spengler had his critics, and likely still does; however, this is an interesting read from the perspective of the 21st century given the state and trends in Western Civilization today.
